{Whidbey} Island

As many of you know, I am one for adventure. Every birthday since my twenty-first, I have created unforgettable memories with friends and family recollecting the past year’s accomplishment and looking forward into the bright new year.

I celebrated my twenty-first birthday in Asheville, NC… my twenty-second in New Orleans, LA… my twenty-third in Charleston, SC… my twenty-fourth in Los Angeles, CA… and now my twenty-fifth in Whidbey Island, WA.

How the last quarter of a century has flown by like a blink of an eye and how eager I am to see what the next twenty-five years have in store. I devoted my time on Whidbey Island to self-reflection, journaling, writing letters and soaking in the landscape. Four full days of being unplugged from technology, social media, notifications, emails… and just relaxing. There is something about the fresh air and the vast landscapes that really put life into perspective. And sharing all these adventures on the Island with my dear parents was the cherry on top.

I have every intention of exploring as much of the Pacific Northwest as I can. There is so much beauty to be seen and never enough time to see it all. {Whidbey Island} was on the top of the list and we conquered it in our four-day trip. With a 1.5 hour drive from Queen Anne in Seattle and a short ferry ride later, we were in nature’s treasure trove.

I am almost weeping with homesickness! I spent so many summers on Whidbey Island – my brother & his wife had a home outside of Oak Harbor, but I explored everything. I have not been back for over thirty years, but your words and photos brought the memories flooding back. Thank you, and so glad you got to share the place with your wonderful parents. I miss seeing them in Raleigh!
